Okie dokie ^^
I never finished it... it had too much traveling... every cliche has a lot of traveling... practically all of the book was traveling!!
I saw the film - a very bad take on it. Book = too much traveling; Film = too little. It seemed like it took place over a couple of days going by what they said at the end.
Also the fact that the main character went from a nobody to a somebody... though I guess it is one of those fantasy books you either love or hate... I thought, "Wow a dragon book! This should be really good!" 3 months later, "Oh dear merlin! How ma I to finish it?"
I think if the idea was a tad bit more original and didn't lag as much with unnecessary description it could have been a brilliant book.
I also heard someone say on the NTWF about the description and I had to agree. I was also going back to the beginning to find out little details about Eragon, such as his hair colour, but could never find it... >> maybe that was just me, but someone else said it too... so it couldn't have been.
Anyway, that's my vague view on it, seeing as I have probably repeated myself any times and haven't read the book yet... ^^;;

You're right about the hair-color thing, it really isn't in the first book. And your vagueness is far more positive than my own take on the book.

Oh God. I hate Arya's self-righteous little speech to the dwarf guy (forgot his name) about the dwarven panetheon and how wrooooong it was. Just reeked of CP letting his personal beliefs slip into his writing. As he often does. I remember something similar with Anne McCaffery (or however her name is spelled) where she said that Pern didn't have a religion because she didn't like religion. I hate lots of other things as well, but it's eleven here and I am extremely tired. More rants later...

Oh gosh yes. And then when Eragon asks about the elves' religion and Oromis proclaims how they worship nothing and how wonderful that is. *grumbles* I mean, really, this insult to my religion- all religions- would be easier to bear if it was well written or at the least subtle.

Oh and Arya is meant to be an Elf, ne? She isn't in the film. They seemed to make this quite obvious as they show her very normal ear... >> Unless she is an elf with unpointed ears, but how else are you to tell she is an elf if it isn't said...
Now it is mentioned, was it even said in the book?

Elves are, of course, so beautiful and stunning and perfect that on first glance anyone can see they're an elf. </sarcasm>

*gasp* Katanal, why have we never seen this before? Hm... probably because we're all (noun) and thus are naturally jealous of anyone that shows beauty greater than our own.

...Take what off? I mean, if you take that last sentence out of context as I am doing, then...um. Nevermind.
EDIT: I am now a furry friend. The irony of it all is killing me.

That could have very well meant that all of us excluding you were of a certain persuasion, while you were still undisclosed yet beautiful.

And men can be beautiful too. Just look at Veigue. Or Kuja, for a more well-known example.
