I supppose this thread is dead now (or at least, it will be until the third book comes out XD). That's too bad, it was great fun. Like when? *is curious, because she presently can think of no such book, and feels stupid* It happens in anime all the time. I'm sure books do it too, though. As for examples... (highly overgeneralizing) - Prince Diamond, from Sailor Moon - comes from a future where Sailor Moon is queen and banished his people when he was a kid, wants to get back at her for this, is also in love with her, and ends up sacrificing himself to save her life at the end. AVATAR SPOILER- Jet, from Avatar - ...if he's a villain... He wasn't very likable in the first season, but after that... ...basically, anyone who follows the "villain who dies and redeems himself" role, 'cause there'd be no reason to redeem him if he wasn't worth it in the first place. And I'm still trying to think of exactly what I was referencing, 'cause I'm pretty sure there was a good example of it that I forgot. XD

Just wanna stab this in there--
Eragon's name is a typo.
Seriously! Type Dragon, but accidentially hit the key directly above it. The E. And you get Eragon. That's annoyed me to no end reading it.
And for those of you who want to know what happens in the Red Brick, but don't want to actually read it, download the audiobook. That way, you can find out what happens while barely paying attention to it and actually focusing on doing something else constructive. And plus the guy who reads it's got an awesome voice.

That was intentional, Aidan, Paolini said so himself. And guess what happens if you typo Aragorn?

Eragon. Though that's more with sound than with spelling.

... If you typo really badly. >_> But yeah, to my shame, I have many times mistakenly switched the names.

...yeah, this is reviving a really old thread, but... oh well. Have any of you read Kippurbird's Eragon and Eldest sporkings? (Note: it's in LJ archives, so they go backwards. Eldest sporking #1 starts at the bottom of the page, and you need to use "Next 10 Entries" to read all of them) They're fairly interesting. ^_^ And I just have to say that Murtagh doesn't get any slack either in the story or as a character. The fact that he was pretty much brainwashed (or something; there's no way he could have actually fallen for the stupid-logic that Evil King only went after the Riders because they were corrupt, considering how he had the wild dragons killed, too), but will still likely end up needing to die to be redeemed, is really, really depressing.

The first two are indeed interesting. Far more detailed than even Anti-shurtugal's many rants. Unfortunately I need food right now, so this post shall be updated later.
Don't apologize for updating dead threads. Especially not rantings against Eragon.
Murtagh could have been so cool. Alas.

I feel sort of bad when I laugh at these, because I don't hate Eragon really, but... this is really funny. XDXD

Xicrog suggested I post this, a letter I got from Christopher Paolini two years ago. I wrote him a letter, and he replied as so:
Dear Sarah,
Eragon was an attempt to create a story that I would enjoy reading myself. A story that ould be so beautiful and poignant that is would make me feel as if I had experienced true magic, as if I had stood beneath a glittering night sky and watched a dragon swoop past overhead, as if I had seen an endless forest filled with ancient mysteries or a fairy standing on my finger. I am honored to hear that you enjoyed reading my books and that they inspired you to craft ones of your own.
Eragon and Saphira's adventures are unfolding beneath my fingers as I write the final volume of the Inheritence trilogy. The book is still unnamed, but John Jude Palenar, the artist who painted the artwork for Eragon and Eldest, is currently working on a green dragon for the cover.
May you soar on dragon's wings, and...
May your sword stay sharp!
Christopher Paolini
And here's my response, basically quotes from a chat (Midna = me):
Midna: I love rereading this letter just to laugh. It brightens my spirits on my worst days, and inspires me to go out in mythical forests to search for fairies and Cinderellas and dragon wings.
Midna: And to sharpen my sword on a regular basis.
Midna: Thanks, CP.
Now I don't HATE Eragon with a burning passion (maybe the character, yes, but not the book in particular) because it holds a sense of nostalgia for me.

XD Man. I have to dislike him a bit less just for that letter.
Does anyone else think of origami when they read the first sentence of the second paragraph?
Make sure to keep your sword sharpened, bearing in mind that posession of any deadly object like nail clippers is likely to get you suspended from school for life. ... Are there any cases of kids bringing actual swords to school as weapons?

XDDD I think that was slightly more entertaining than the actual book.
I want to know how this was auto-summarized.

I want to know how this was auto-summarized. xD They C+P'd the PDF version of the book into Microsoft Word and told it to autosummarize it for them. This is the result. ^^ I also found this sporking of the Eragon movie while I was on the Anti-Shurtugal LJ. It's pretty amusing. I just disagree with one part: ...but Eragon doesn't have a heart. >.>
