By distinguishing between 'fan' and 'person', do you mean to say Eragon fans aren't human?
...
Okay, I just got the weirdest mental image of a squinty reptilian creature curled up in a damp hole somewhere with a laptop, surrounded by Eragon toys and merchandise and drinking coffee while typing furiously at the book's critics o_0;;;

XD And again back to sword airbags... we owe Crystal a great debt for that gem. ... We should recruit her! She's going to be disappearing again shortly, though... >.> But, yeah. It is a gem. XD Actually, I thought that even fighting with wooden sticks would probably end up with people getting more hurt than they actually did. There's a reason that they use rattan or bamboo for sparring rather than wood. And as Kiddo said, a sword that's "thin enough to pierce the ribs but thick enough to hack through armor" is completely ridiculous. >_> There's a reason people wore armor - because swords didn't cut through it. And a sword that's thin like that wouldn't be using for cutting, anyway, because that's just silly. ...I don't know why that bothers me so much, but it does. ^_^;

"thin enough to pierce the ribs but thick enough to hack through armor" If that is the quote I think it is, that character is a goner anyways as far as, well, silly little things. Like. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Or, ya know, SHOWING UP MUCH. And also (spoiler?) being dead, but... better a dead character than one trapped in the Inheritance series =P

I can put up with worthless characters more than obvious impossibilities, I suppose. ^_^; ...Or having beliefs shoved in my face, actually. The obvious fatalism and atheist elves were really, really annoying. It's kind of like, shut up, and let me make my own conclusions about what would happen to your characters if they die.

Atheist elves? o.0 is this another Eldest thing?

...but him being worthless means there is no good villain T_T no good villain=no villainous fun. Atheist elves? o.0 is this another Eldest thing? That's true... >.> Of course, you can have a good villain without a deep backstory, but you have to do all sorts of other things to make up for it, like having the villain be competent. And adding on a backstory right before the villain dies is just plain silly. It's bad enough when you're led to like a villain through the story and then he dies; attempting to make you like him in the moment that he dies is manipulative. As for the elves, I don't think so... I didn't read Eldest, but I thought I remember them being like that. He didn't say it outright, but it was really, really, really obvious that he didn't like his characters to have any religious beliefs. It made me want to slap Eragon several times.

I think the elves worshipped nature instead, but not a concrete god. For some reason, that sentence makes it sound like they don't worship the patron god of building materials. Oops.
Anyway, I remember reading an excerpt on Anti-Shurtugal like that where either Arya or the other elf guy was being really self-righteous about their beliefs.

The elves are atheists, and they're self-righteous about their lack of belief. Here's the basic gist of the dialogue. O:"We worship nothing." E:"You worship the concept of nothing?" "No, we do not worship." "Well that sucks." "No, you're stupid, it's cool because that means we're responsible for our own actions." "Oh. I am of course converted instantly, possibly because I had no assigned religion before this moment." "I am, of course, not shoving this down your throat or anything."
And in response to older posts: Ebil- ^_^ Thank you for liking the five-minute drawing. Ikkin- Why is Crystal always dissapearing? D: Xicrog- *gasp* How could they so callously toss aside the patron god of building materials?

I supppose this thread is dead now (or at least, it will be until the third book comes out XD). That's too bad, it was great fun.
Like when? *is curious, because she presently can think of no such book, and feels stupid*

No! Threads never die! At least, not until we actually get a significant number of threads. Post on all threads whenever. Posts are good.
