Yes, yes, I know it's horrible to slot fantasy characters into steryotypes, but most of the world does it anyway, so why not for the purposes of this thread?
Anyway, I'm curious what everyone's favorite stereotype/archetype of character is. Personally, I like the Sexy Thief stereotype (Low-angst variety), and for archetypes I have to go with Evil Figure with the Ultimately Good Heart.
Simply because the thief character always comes with sarcasm and wit. Which is a bit more entertaining to read than "I am farmboy, hear me angst," or "OMG u insulted me bcuz im a girl now i pwn j00."

Noble Outlaws. And non-Noble Outlaws. And just Outlaws in general. I really have no idea why, I always have. When I was little, Black Bart was my hero and I wanted to be just like him.
Man, no wonder I turned out so strange.

... Do you mean Black Bart the iguana? I somehow doubt this...

Charles Bowles, the most prolific train robber of the Wild West. He made 24 successful robberies and had a twenty-year career. He is most remembered for his gentlemanly additude, polite manners towards women and the poor, and desire for revenge against transportation magnate Wells-Fargo.
In a nutshell, that's who he was. I mean, the guy was nicer and had less blood on his hands than most of the actual LAWMEN in the West.

Sounds like a cool guy. And he falls into the sexy thief category. Let's make an organization dedicated to him!

But he was in his late forties when he started stealing. He's really not that good-looking, Wikipedia's got photos of him.

Hm. Anti-heros, probably. So long as they don't angst all over the place. And demons/vampires, with the same restriction and the added one of them not being there just to kill things. That makes it no fun.

Xicrog- D: Fine then. Crush my dreams. Still, he sounds cool.
Shade- Yes, those are cool too. But the low-angst varieties are so rare these days.

I have a thing for shapeshifters as well, so long as they aren't of the wolf variety. Which narrows things down a lot.

Zy - They are. And yet I've found a few. Or ones that I don't mind the angsting of. Not sure which category Vincent fits into. Not that it matters.
Xicrog - Shapeshifters are fun. Werewolves, however, are overdone. So I agree with you.

I think the only werewolf I like is Angua. Of course, it's Terry Pratchett, so this shouldn't come as a shock.
Speaking of Discworld: I like characters like Vetinari, who always know everything that's going on and know what to do and are so cool and collected about it. I can think of one other character like that in a fantasy book I've read.
