I've made this thread mainly so I can explain the setting, since it is more complicated than "basic medieval-esque fantasy," and it would be complicated to work this smoothly into a post.
As you can tell from my post, the country is run by a council of mages, widely viewed as rich and corrupt. Mages (magic ability is hereditary) are a minority that holds all of the political and financial power. Magical items are widespread, since many mages make their living selling enchanted things, and most common people own at least one enchanted item. However, since these items are entirely dependent on mages for their creation, the mages charge exorbitant prices. Naturally there is a flourishing black market.
Although magic is used for many basic tasks, technology of a sort has developed. Printing presses and clocks are in widespread use- think 1700s level of development. However, firearms are strictly outlawed, since the mages don't want any common person with long-distance weapons of that power. Naturally, those are on the black market too.
Both mages and commoners are human, but due to more scientifically-oriented mages experimenting on both willing and unwilling subjects, many animal-human hybrids exist. They're typically shunned by common people and mages alike.
Some basic rules for the RP:
1. Make posts at the very least 150 words, although more is preferred.
2. Wait for others to post- a conversation between just two people doesn't give anyone else a chance to respond.
3. There is a vague plot, as you can tell, but feel free to contribute and add spins.
4. Since there is an OOC thread, carry out all OOC discussion on here, please.
5. I just realized that I gave neither the city nor the country a name. Whoever posts first can get the right to name them. XD
