Inspired by an AVEN thread. What song lyrics weird you out, and why?
1. Wish I Had An Angel, Nightwish.
...it's about date rape. Srsly.
I'm going down, so frail and cruel
Drunken disguise changes all of the rules
Old loves they die hard
Old lies they die harder
I wish I had an angel for one moment of love
I wish I had your angel, your Virgin Mary undone
I'm in love with my lust, burning angel wings to dust
I wish I had your angel tonight.
When I first saw the title, I thought it was one of their love ballads. I was wrong. The fact that I associate this song with a rapist character due to an iAudio coincidence (chronicled on this forum) makes it even worse.
2. Too Old to Rock and Roll (Too Young to Die), Jethro Tull
So the old Rocker gets out his bike
to make a ton before he takes his leave.
Up on the A1 by Scotch Corner
just like it used to be.
And as he flies
tears in his eyes
his wind-whipped words echo the final take
and he hits the trunk road doing around 120
with no room left to brake.
And he was too old to Rock'n'Roll but he was too young to die.
And he was too old to Rock'n'Roll but he was too young to die.
This is just one of many songs like this where some old dude gets on a motorcycle and commits suicide. I don't know why they're so popular, but this one creeps me out the most because of the repeating "too old to rock and roll, too young to die" repeating through the entire song.
3. Shy, Sonata Arctica
Obsessed by you, your looks, well, anyway I would any day die for you,
I write on paper and erased away
Still I sit in diner Citylite, drinking coffee or reading lies
Turn my head and I can see you, could that really be you
Sometimes I'm wondering why you look me and you blink your eye
You can't be acting like my Dana
I see your beautiful smile and I would like to run away from
Reflections of me in your eyes, oh please
Talk to me, show some pity
You touch me in many, many ways
But I'm shy can't you see
Why can't this band write a power ballad that's not incredibly stalker-ish?
Discuss, please. I'm sure I can think of more later.
EDIT: Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Department, located in scenic Comments on Song Two. Keeping that because quite frankly, I find it funny for some reason.
